Brunel Professions’ employees have shown true community spirit by organising a charity cycle to raise money for the Scottish charity Social Bite, a cause local to their office in Perth, Scotland.
In celebration of Brunel Professions’ 15th anniversary this year, the company decided to theme their charity efforts around the number 15. 15 Brunel employees took part, each completing a 15 mile cycle and recording their progress. The event took place from 15th July, over 15 days. In the end, many employees clocked up over 15 miles, and a lot of them braved the rainy British weather to complete their cycle rides. In total they cycled over 268 miles for the cause.
Brunel’s aim was to raise £500 for the Scottish charity, Social Bite. Social Bite do phenomenal work around helping the homeless, including giving out 140,000 free meals each week, a sit-down restaurant for those experiencing homelessness or food poverty, and creating jobs and training opportunities for Scotland’s homeless. Their goal is to completely eradicate homelessness in Scotland. A worthy cause indeed. Brunel colleagues, family and friends supported the team’s charity efforts, helping to exceed the initial target and raising a total of £545. Following this, Brunel Professions matched the online donations adding a further £545 bringing the grand total to a whopping £1090.
Brunel’s fundraising comes at a time when the struggle to end homelessness is even more prevalent than usual. Unfortunately, there has been a surge in people becoming homeless during the coronavirus crisis as job losses and barriers to sofa-surfing during the pandemic pushes people to the brink. However, Social Bite are ploughing their efforts into helping at this tough time; they have completely re-purposed their business in order to deliver 6,000 food packages over the next 3 months to Scotland’s most vulnerable people, who have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
Brian Graham, associate director at Brunel Professions, is based in the company’s Perth office and said
“Brunel Group are committed to assisting local charities where we possibly can. Every year we raise very important funds for charities to help where we can.
This is a fantastic charity and very special worthwhile cause which Brunel were very happy to help out especially during these taxing times. Homelessness is an extremely harsh reality in the world we live in and it’s amazing that Social Bite are doing what they do to help eradicate it! We are proud to help such a brilliant charity and we wish them all the best!”
Louise Hudson, head of individual giving at Social Bite said
“Social Bite could not be more grateful for the effort that Brunel Group has put behind this fundraising. Your amazing contribution and overall support has helped the most vulnerable throughout Scotland to access free food and to become a stronger society.
When we first made plans to repurpose our entire business to deliver free food, we set out to deliver an ambitious 3000 food packs a day. We quickly realised that the demand on free food was far greater and we needed to scale up to double that daily figure to over 6,000 packs a day; so far we have given away more than 500,000 emergency food and essential packs. This increase in delivery has only been made possible thanks to the overwhelming support received from the general public and companies such as Brunel Group, despite the economic uncertainty. Thank you once again for supporting us, and as a result, many others, through yet another vital appeal and congratulations on your 15th Anniversary”.
Social Bite will receive a total of £1090, which will allow them to continue with their outstanding work, providing meals, shelter and training for the homeless, and ultimately seeking to eradicate homelessness in Scotland.
